Swat enjoyed a prominent role throughout history. It was a great center of learning during the hay days of Buddhism and Gandhara civilization.
The emergence of Swat State led to the social, cultural, educational and health care dimension on the modern perspective. In 1927 the first regular dispensary/hospital was opened in Saidu Sharif, affiliated with the Provincial Medical Department in 1929. By 1947 there were three hospitals in Swat State namely Saidu Sharif Hospital and Central Hospital and one in Daggar Buner.
By 1968 there were 16 hospitals with six hundred beds strength and 45 dispensaries. Besides, there was a Red Cross Maternity Home, a Dental Clinic, and a Leprosy Clinic. Patients were provided with free medicines, food, and tea. A facility of training dispensers was provided in Saidu Group of Hospitals. Swat State merged in pakistan in 1969. A Paramedical Institute was established in 1979 and later a public sector Saidu Medial College was established in December 1999.
1990s, the emergence of the private sector in health care and education filled the gap which the public sector was unable to cope.
A group of dedicated and highly qualified doctors in the Executive Board of Swat Medical Complex sensed the need of establishing a private medical college in Swat and Swat Medical College is the outcome of that dream.
We all are determined to make this an institution of high repute, well to the satisfaction of national authorities and international institutions, to produce quality doctors in the best possible academic environment. This college is purpose-built which meets the requirements of Khyber Medical University and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council both in structure and faculty. There will be, in near future, a full-fledged 500 bedded teaching hospital attached to the institution for the Clinical training of the students.
We intend to move forward with very clear objectives and mission towards a vision of expanding into an institution where there will be, in near future a dental college, nursing school and post graduation in basic medical and other allied sciences.
